Position Overview
The Campus CPMU Chargeman, Malaysia is responsible for the overall operation, control, and reliability of the High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) electrical systems across the KUL campus, including the CPMU 275kV interface. This role serves as the competent authority for all MV/HV-related activities, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable electrical operations to maintain an uninterrupted power supply for critical facilities, supporting other Cyberjaya sites in Malaysia as required.
The position follows standard office working hours. However, due to the critical nature of the facility, the role requires 24x7x365 on-call availability to support emergency response, incident management, and critical electrical activities. This position reports directly to the Manager, 275kV Competent Engineer, Malaysia, who will lead the overall KUL CPMU operations.
Responsibilities
HV/MV System Operation & Switching Authority Act as the competent person for all 33kV electrical systems in accordance with regulatory requirements Act as the delegate under instruction from the Responsible Engineer for operating at higher voltages Execute and approve high-voltage switching operations, isolation, energization, and backfeed activities Ensure all switching activities follow approved procedures and safety controls Maintenance & Reliability Management Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of: 33kV switchgear (GIS/RMU) Power transformers HV/LV distribution systems Analyse system performance data and implement corrective actions to prevent unplanned downtime Inspection, Monitoring & Compliance Conduct routine inspections of substations, switchboards, and critical equipment Maintain accurate logs, reports, and compliance records Ensure all activities comply with: Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) Electricity Supply Act & regulations Safety & Risk Management Enforce strict safety procedures including: LOTO (Lockout Tagout) Permit-to-Work (PTW) HV switching authorization Ensure zero exposure to live electrical hazards during operations Emergency Response & Incident Management BO 33kV Chargeman response to: Power outages Equipment failures HV/MV faults Coordinate system recovery and ensure minimal downtime Communicate with TNB NLDC to ensure switching coordination Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures Utility & Stakeholder Coordination Liaise with utility provider (e.
g. TNB) for: Grid operations Shutdown planning Energization activities Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and vendors Energy Management & Optimization Monitor load distribution and power consumption Analyse load profiles to ensure balanced and efficient system usage Support energy efficiency initiatives and capacity planning Documentation & Reporting Write and maintain: Changes Method of Procedures Standard Operating Procedures Emergency Operating procedures Maintain: Switching logs Maintenance records Incident reports Prepare weekly/monthly operational reports Contractor & Project Management Supervise all vendor and contractor works within HV/MV areas Review and approve Method of Procedures (MOP) Ensure all works meet safety and operational standards Job Requirements Valid B0 33kV Chargeman certification (registered with ST) Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related discipline or relevant industry experience Minimum 3–5 years of experience in high-voltage electrical systems or mission-critical facilities.
Good communication skills in English and Bahasa Malay. Strong experience in HV systems (33kV / substation / CPMU) and protection systems Strong emergency response and troubleshooting experience with critical facilities Strong knowledge in switching operations, protection systems, and electrical safety We operate with No Ego and No Arrogance.
