- Highly complex electrical distribution products, customer projects, or configurations
- Independent technical leadership from concept through production and field support
- Multiple complex customer requirements, projects, and engineering priorities managed concurrently
- Technical authority for design reviews, engineering decisions, and complex problem solving
- Accountability for engineering standards, design quality, manufacturability, innovation, and team development Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Design & Technical Execution
- Lead the design and development of electrical distribution equipment, including switchboards, panelboards, power distribution assemblies, modular power solutions, and related products.
- Develop and direct the development of electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Perform and review electrical calculations including load analysis, short-circuit calculations, voltage drop, conductor sizing, and equipment selection.
- Independently lead highly complex engineering work from concept through design release, production, testing, and technical closeout.
- Complex Project & Customer Leadership
- Serve as the technical lead for complex customer projects and engineered solutions.
- Translate customer specifications and application requirements into clear, executable engineering solutions.
- Coordinate technical priorities across multiple projects and identify engineering risks before they affect production or customer commitments.
- Provide technical direction when requirements, configurations, or design constraints require advanced engineering judgment.
- Design Review & Engineering Authority
- Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations, BOMs, and technical documentation within assigned scope.
- Lead formal design reviews and ensure technical decisions are documented and communicated.
- Serve as a technical authority for complex electrical design issues and support resolution of escalated engineering problems.
- Establish and reinforce sound engineering practices, design discipline, and technical consistency across the team.
- Manufacturing, Testing & Field Support
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, and Project Management to support production and resolve technical issues.
- Provide advanced technical support during fabrication, assembly, testing, commissioning, and field troubleshooting.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability principles to improve buildability, repeatability, and production flow.
- Use manufacturing and field feedback to eliminate recurring design issues and improve future product execution.
- Standards, Compliance & Engineering Change
- Ensure designs comply with applicable UL, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, customer specifications, and company standards.
- Lead engineering change activities and ensure revisions are technically sound, documented, and effectively implemented.
- Support prototype builds and validation activities for new or significantly modified products.
- Drive consistent application of engineering standards and controlled technical documentation.
- Quality, Standardization & Continuous Improvement
- Lead root-cause investigations for complex engineering, manufacturing, testing, and field issues.
- Develop permanent corrective actions that address underlying technical causes and prevent recurrence.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardization, manufacturability, quality, cost reduction, and engineering efficiency.
- Drive standardization of designs, components, drawings, BOM structures, calculations, and engineering methods.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and product simplification while maintaining customer, performance, and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor Electrical Engineers I and II and support development of technical capability across the Engineering team.
- Provide technical guidance, review engineering work, and help less-experienced engineers develop sound engineering judgment.
- Communicate technical decisions, risks, and requirements clearly to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration and a culture of quality, accountability, technical rigor, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and engineered electrical products.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering projects and resolving advanced technical issues.
- Proficiency with electrical design software.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to review engineering work, provide technical direction, and mentor engineers.
Preferred Skills
- PE license preferred.
- Experience with switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, modular power systems, or related engineered products.
- Strong knowledge of UL standards and applicable electrical codes and industry requirements.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems, engineered-to-order manufacturing, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Experience leading engineering standardization, product development, prototype, testing, or field-support activities. Physical Requirements
- Frequently walk throughout manufacturing and warehouse environments.
- Stand for extended periods while supporting production and testing.
- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
