Residential Experience & Living Learning Community Coordinator

Developed in 1969, the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies is one of the oldest academic living-learning communities in the country and a signature program at the University of Redlands. Students live and learn together in the Johnston dorm, where there are classrooms, creative spaces, a meditation room, a commuter lounge, and a music room.

As students in an intentional, consensus-based community, Johnston students work together to use their community budget to bring in speakers, host live music and other events, and support community and academic projects. Central to Johnston is self-governance, which empowers students to make decisions about how best to live and learn together.

Johnston also uses a restorative justice approach to conduct in order to restore and repair community harm.
