As a Microsoft SQL Server Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and optimizing our database infrastructure, which is the backbone of our operations.

AS A MICROSOFT SQL SERVER ENGINEER YOU WILL: Stored Procedure Development: Design, write, and maintain complex T-SQL stored procedures that directly support our Elixir-based applications, serving as a critical bridge between our backend services and data layer.
Security: Ensure that our databases meet high standards of data security and compliance. Claims Data Processing: Parse, validate, and process ANSI 837 healthcare claim data including both HCFA (professional) and UB (institutional) claim formats, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. Automated Job Development: Design and maintain SQL Server Agent jobs and SSIS packages (.
dtsx) to support automated data loading, processing, and transformation workflows that feed our claims processing pipeline. Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, data scientists, and data analysts, to support their data needs and ensure seamless integration with our systems.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Be the subject matter expert on the databases you work in and address any related issues and contribute to root-cause analysis. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database processes. Scalability: Develop and implement strategies for scaling our database systems as our business continues to experience rapid growth.
YOU WILL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Proficiency in T-SQL and SQL query optimization, with deep day-to-day experience writing and maintaining stored procedures in support of application development teams and a hands-on approach to being embedded in the development workflow.
Extensive knowledge of the ANSI 837 standard, including practical experience parsing and processing both HCFA (837P) and UB (837I) claim formats, understanding of loop and segment structures, and familiarity with how claim data flows through healthcare billing and adjudication pipelines. Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and experience working within an Agile team environment, including contributing to sprint planning, daily standups, and iterative delivery cycles.
Experience using a project management and source control platform such as GitLab to create, manage, and work tickets through the full development lifecycle from requirements to production deployment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Passion for contributing to a meaningful mission and experiencing hyper-growth in a dynamic work environment.
Strong knowledge of data security and compliance standards. Familiarity with data modeling and ETL processes, including hands-on experience developing and maintaining SSIS packages (.dtsx) and SQL Server Agent jobs for automating data loads, processing workflows, and scheduled operations in a production healthcare data environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
THAT ARE A BIG PLUS Experience supporting Elixir or other functional language backend applications through SQL data layers. Familiarity with EDI transaction sets beyond 837, such as 835 remittance or 834 eligibility transactions. Prior experience in a healthcare technology, payer, or clearinghouse environment where ANSI EDI standards are part of daily work.
Experience designing SSIS-based ETL pipelines for high-volume healthcare claims data ingestion and processing.
