Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12-month period. The typical number of hours for this position will not exceed 25 hours/week.

ABOUT THIS JOB Position Specific Summary The Kitchen Manager coordinates and oversees daily operations of the Senior Nutrition Program meal service while maintaining high standards of food safety, sanitation, and customer service. The position plans and facilitates meal service to older adults, maintains required program documentation and compliance records, coordinates with food vendors and volunteers, and supports social engagement opportunities for program participants. Work is performed under the supervision of a Recreation Program Coordinator. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

Receives meal deliveries, monitors and documents food temperatures, and maintains proper hot holding temperatures on the steam table in accordance with food safety standards. Adheres to food safety rules and regulations for labeling, dating, and storing food in proper locations and temperatures. Assists in serving, packaging, plating and assembling food items to ensure they are ready for guests.

Plans, organizes, schedules, orders meals and necessary supplies. Coordinates with food caterers and contracted caterers to ensure participants meet basic daily nutritional requirements, which may include prepping and assisting with cooking of meals. Cleans and prepares produce for current and upcoming meals. Sets up beverage station and ensures these workstations remain fully stocked and clean.

Provides excellent customer service to program members and maintains professional and courteous communication with kitchen staff and senior participants. Provides participants with social services information and referrals. Publicizes programs and services. Maintains high standards of sanitation and safety by ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen and safe and proper food storage.

Maintains proper portion control of food to control spoilage and waste. Ensures all volunteers meet the food handler’s standards and certification program with Pima County Health Department. Maintains and provides accurate records and reports as required by the Pima Council on Aging (PCOA). Utilizes department software and computer systems to maintain attendance records, meal counts, reports, and participant information as required.

Guides and assists helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers, or temporary employees with food service. Assists Program Coordinators with kitchen-related emergencies in a calm and effective manner. Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned. Working Conditions Some exposure to light physical or environmental conditions (noise, dust, weather, etc.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

6 months post-high school Work Experience One (1) year of directly related experience License/Certification Valid and Unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in food preparation and handling. Experience in a commercial, institutional, or senior nutrition food service environment.

Experience maintaining food safety records and regulatory compliance documentation. Experience leading volunteers or temporary staff in a food service setting. POSITION DETAILS Job Profile J3324

Compensation
