Monitor Technician

Position Summary

**

As an integral part of the clinical team, the Monitor Technician is responsible for observing and interpreting electrocardiographic (EKG) tracings on telemetry-monitored patients. By detecting deviations from a patient's normal baseline and promptly notifying the appropriate nursing and medical personnel, this role plays a vital part in ensuring patient safety and effective care.

Key Responsibilities

**

• Rhythm Surveillance: ** Continuously observe, interpret, evaluate, and document EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients.

• Alarm Management: ** Rapidly respond to monitor alarms and promptly notify appropriate clinical staff of dysrhythmias and other critical findings.

• Equipment Operation: ** Operate and utilize monitoring systems to their full capacity while ensuring the proper, safe functioning of telemetry equipment.

• Documentation: ** Maintain accurate, complete records of patient monitoring data and report logs for the medical teams.

• Collaboration: ** Work alongside nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to maintain comprehensive, high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

& Requirements **

• Education: ** High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Training: ** Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course is required upon hire. Candidates without this training must complete an approved certificate program within 90 days of hire.

• Experience: ** 1 year of recent experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years may be accepted in lieu of formal course requirements.

• Competency: ** Must successfully complete the Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool, including passing a basic arrhythmia exam, prior to completing new employee orientation.

• Skills: ** Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
