Position Title: Financial Controller FLSA Status: Exempt About Citrus Counseling Services (CCS) CCS is a registered nonprofit organization that has provided comprehensive mental health services to our community since 1978. We specialize in programs serving young children, at-risk youth, and victims of crime, as well as individual, couples, and family counseling.

Position Summary

The Financial Controller reports directly to the CEO and serves as a member of the Leadership Team. This position provides strategic financial leadership and oversees the organization’s accounting and financial operations, including financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and revenue recognition.

The Financial Controller plays a key role in supporting CCS’s financial health and long-term sustainability by ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting regulatory and fiscal compliance, and providing financial analysis and recommendations to inform organizational planning and strategic decision-making.

Essential Job Responsibilities Oversee the organization’s accounting operations and monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting. Develop and coordinate annual budgets and financial forecasts; monitor budget-to-actual performance and provide analysis and explanations of significant variances. Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and business processes that promote accurate financial reporting and effective internal controls.

Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support executive leadership, organizational planning, and strategic decision-making. Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal financial reporting, tax, grant, and regulatory requirements. Oversee grantor contracts, financial reporting, cost allocation, and reimbursement requests.

Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash management, and payroll functions. Coordinate external audits and other financial reviews, serving as a primary point of contact for auditors and providing requested documentation and financial information. Serve as a financial liaison with banking institutions, grantor agencies, external CPA firms, and other financial partners.

Provide financial reporting, guidance, and analysis to the Leadership Team and Board of Directors. Identify financial risks and opportunities and recommend strategies that support the organization’s financial stability and sustainability. Lead, support, coach, and develop finance and administrative staff as applicable.

Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, cash management, and internal controls. Knowledge of nonprofit and/or grant-funded financial operations, including cost allocation methodologies and applicable Uniform Guidance requirements.

Ability to translate program needs and operational priorities into effective budgets and financial plans. Strong understanding of government-funded programs, contracts, and grant reporting requirements. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Proficiency with QuickBooks and/or other accounting, financial management, and payroll systems.

Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and meet multiple deadlines. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain financial information to individuals without a financial background, including program directors and Board members.

Ability to collaborate effectively and build strong working relationships across departments. Strong ethical standards, sound judgment, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality and financial integrity. Servant leadership skills with the ability to lead, support, coach, and develop staff. Alignment with CCS’s mission, values, and team culture.

Education

& Experience Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit, or similarly regulated environment. Prior experience supervising, developing, and evaluating finance or administrative support staff.

Demonstrated experience managing external audits and working directly with auditors to ensure accurate and timely completion of audit requirements. Experience working with government-funded programs and contracts, including cost allocation methodologies and Uniform Guidance requirements. Demonstrated experience with budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, financial analysis, and financial management in a complex organizational environment.

Experience working with grant-funded organizations and managing grantor reporting and reimbursement processes preferred.
