The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Regional and Specialist team includes Integrated Specialist Services, Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, Primary Healthcare Services, Birthing and Early Childhood Services (South), and Child and Youth Services. Our purpose is to connect, guide, and empower teams and communities through culturally safe, transparent, and responsive ways.
About the Role? Do you have a passion and interest in working with clients to truly improve their health and function within their community and mob? Here at IUIH we are client and community focused. We provide a system of care that looks at all aspects of individuals and how we can help and support them. We work in a multidisciplinary clinical setting interacting with multiple disciplines including GPs, Nurses, OT’s EPs, Dieticians, Psychologists just to name a few.
The physiotherapy position includes seeing clients mainly through Community Controlled Aboriginal Primary Healthcare Services/clinics across SEQ. The primary role is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with their health journey, working cohesively in a multidisciplinary team. IUIH will facilitate the growth of culturally respectful physiotherapy clinicians through yarns, monthly activities, and resources to ensure culturally responsive appropriate services and programs that support clients are delivered across the network.
Your day-to-day duties will include: Travelling to community health service clinics to provide clinical services which include clinic-based appointments, group programs and home visits as needed. Varied caseload- Providing culturally responsive assessments and intervention for adults and children across the lifespan, from acute to chronic presentations.
Predominantly see a musculoskeletal caseload but also see paediatrics, cardiorespiratory, post-operative and vestibular rehabilitation Provide group education/exercise sessions as part of the Chronic Pain program, hydrotherapy program, or Work It Out program; IUIH’s chronic disease rehabilitation and self-management program.
Liaise with Queensland Health regarding services available and referral pathways. Attend team meetings, professional development, socialisation activities and organisational meetings rostered. Collaboration and working within a multi-disciplinary team with wayfaring or initiation and participation of case conferencing with other disciplines and clinicians About You?
Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) Current AHPRA Registration. Current Disability Worker Screening Check (Qld Yellow Card). Current First Aid and CPR Certificates. Bachelor in Physiotherapy. Experience in providing assessment, case management and physiotherapy services to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.
