Mental Health Medical Biller
Job description
Transcend is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mental Health Medical Biller to manage and oversee our behavioral health billing operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience navigating the complexities of mental health insurance billing, claims processing, and reimbursement management.
In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining the financial health of our practice by ensuring timely, accurate claims submission, resolving billing issues, and delivering compassionate communication when addressing patient inquiries.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, verify, and submit primary and secondary insurance claims for mental health services (e.g., individual/group therapy, psychiatric evaluations, medication management) using standard CPT, ICD-10, and DSM-5 coding. Insurance Verification & Authorizations: Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and secure required prior authorizations from third-party payers.
Denials & Appeals Management: Investigate, appeal, and resolve unpaid, delayed, or denied claims in a timely manner. Patient Accounts & Collections: Generate monthly patient statements, post insurance and patient payments, set up payment plans, and respond professionally to patient billing inquiries. Compliance & Auditing: Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA regulations, payer guidelines, and billing compliance standards.
Financial Reporting: Maintain accurate records and perform routine billing audits and account reconciliations.
Qualifications
& Requirements Experience: Minimum of 5 years of medical billing experience (Required). Specialty Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience specifically in mental/behavioral health billing (Required). Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and billing software. Knowledge: Expert understanding of mental health CPT codes, ICD-10 coding, modifier usage, and payer pre-authorization requirements.
Soft Skills: Excellent organizational abilities, high attention to detail, and compassionate patient communication skills.
