Job Description Performs a variety of duties in relationship to decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays/sets, equipment, and supplies with direct supervision. Performs routine cleaning such as wiping down tables. Participate in distribution of operating room supplies and trays/sets.
Performs all tasks assigned in a neat and organized manner. Maintains and prevents cross contamination by observing dress codes, environmental policies, and traffic control. Completes advanced internal training in a surgical specialty and serves as a department resource for the assigned specialty(ies). Experience Certification from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) 2 years of Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist experience inclusive of relevant school curriculum Preferred Qualifications Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) or Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification Education High school diploma or equivalent and graduate from a surgical technology or sterile processing technician program or three years of experience in a clinical environment Certification Summary Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) Certification(s) must stay current to maintain employment in this role Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic computer skills Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Job Responsibilities Completes all job functions of a SPD Technician.
Serves as a resource to other team members on the processing and assembly of trays for designated specialty(ies). Serves as back up for supervisor/team lead in their absence as requested. Provides a minimum of 2 staff in-services on the instruments and trays for assigned service. In-services should include surgical technician staff members.
Serves as a preceptor for the department for new staff members. Assist with orientation and annual competency check offs. Serves as a resource to the OR team for the assigned service.
