Location: Bromsgrove Depot (Primary), with flexibility to work at Redditch Depot as required Depots: Bromsgrove B60 3EX & Redditch B98 7SN Pay Rate: £19.11 per hour (PAYE) Contract Type: Full-Time Hours: Alternating weekly shifts covering 6:30am – 6:00pm (Early/Late Rotation) About the Role Concept Resources are recruiting on behalf of Bromsgrove District Council and Redditch Borough Council for an experienced HGV Mechanic to join their Fleet Services team.
The Councils operate a joint fleet of almost 200 vehicles, supporting essential services including waste collection, street cleansing, grounds maintenance and housing repairs across approximately 80,000 households. Based primarily at the Bromsgrove depot, with occasional travel to Redditch, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the fleet remains safe, compliant and operational.
You'll work on a diverse range of vehicles including HGVs, refuse collection vehicles, sweepers, tankers, vans, light commercial vehicles and specialist plant equipment. Key Responsibilities
Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on a varied fleet of commercial vehicles and plant equipment Diagnose and repair chassis, body and specialist equipment faults Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and statutory testing Ensure all work complies with DVSA, Operator Licence and Council standards Complete inspection reports and workshop documentation accurately Carry out off-site breakdown support when required Work across both Council depots as business needs dictate Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within the workshop Deliver high levels of customer service to internal departments Follow all Health & Safety procedures and report hazards promptly Candidate Requirements To be successful, you should have: City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Motor Vehicle Engineering (or equivalent) Qualification to VOSA standards for HGV inspections and testing MOT Nominated Tester (Class 4, 5 & 7) qualification (desirable) Previous experience maintaining and repairing HGVs and commercial vehicles Experience working on refuse collection vehicles, sweepers, tankers, plant or similar specialist vehicles Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems MIG, gas and electric welding experience (coded welding advantageous) Full LGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines Good IT skills and experience using workshop or fleet management systems What You'll Receive The Councils offer an excellent benefits package including: Local Government Pension Scheme 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with service) Flexible working opportunities where appropriate Employee Assistance Programme Employee benefits platform offering discounts on shopping, holidays, leisure and more Salary sacrifice schemes Ongoing training and professional development Stable, long-term career within Local Government If you're a qualified HGV Mechanic looking to work on a diverse fleet while supporting essential local services, we'd love to hear from you.
