We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join Procore’s Traffic team within Developer Acceleration . In this role, you’ll serve as a technical leader for our traffic and edge networking ecosystem, driving the design and evolution of the API gateways, CDN, and ingress/egress infrastructure that sit in front of nearly every request Procore serves .
Your primary goal is to set the technical direction for critical initiatives—including our migration off legacy API gateway technology to modern, cloud-native alternatives—while mentoring engineers across a globally distributed team . As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll partner with Engineering Management, Security, and peer Developer Acceleration teams - including Secrets & Observability- to ensure our traffic layer meets the reliability, security, and compliance bar that Procore’s global customer base depends on .

This position reports into the Senior Engineering Manager, Traffic and will be based in our Cairo, Egypt office . We’re looking for someone to join us immediately . What you’ll do: Set the overall technical tone and direction for Traffic initiatives focusing on modern, cloud-native alternatives . Design, implement, and maintain scalable ingress/egress infrastructure, including API gateways, CDN/Edge Compute configurations, mTLS, and DNS .
Serve as the subject matter expert within the traffic and edge networking domain, championing best practices across tools, processes, and procedures . Partner with Security and compliance-focused teams to ensure traffic infrastructure meets Security & Compliance Controls and other regulatory requirements . Leverage AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows to accelerate delivery, automate routine tasks, and improve code quality across the team .
Mentor and develop teammates through code reviews, pairing, and training, actively growing a distributed engineering team across time zones . Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across services, platforms, and infrastructure, serving as an escalation point during incidents . Build and maintain comprehensive documentation and runbooks to ensure operational knowledge scales with the team .
What we’re looking for: Experience: 8+ years of combined experience as a Software, Systems, Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineer, with a proven track record of technical leadership . Strong experience in one of the following programming languages (Go, Python, Typescript, Ruby) Technical Expertise: Deep experience with API gateway and service mesh technologies (such as Kong and Envoy Proxy/Gateway) and production experience with CDN and edge platforms at scale .
Networking Knowledge: Strong understanding of DNS, ingress/egress networking, and cloud networking fundamentals (VPCs, routing, peering) . Tooling & Security: Experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling (Terraform, Helm); familiarity with secrets management and Zero Trust patterns (Hashi. Corp Vault, OIDC) is a plus .
