About the Role
Join our team as a Data Center Technician in Herndon, United States . This is an onsite, contract/freelance, dispatch-based position where you'll support critical infrastructure at data center facilities in and around the Reston area.
Compensation
& Work Setup Hourly contract/freelance position Paid for actual hours worked on each assignment Assignments may range from a few hours to longer shifts depending on client requirements No guaranteed 8-hour workday or fixed number of hours per week Hourly rate will be discussed based on experience and assignment requirements Work Schedule On-demand / dispatch-based Assignment schedules vary based on client requirements Some assignments may require short-notice availability Nights and weekends may be required depending on the assignment Technicians should be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision onsite Please note: This is not a traditional full-time position.
Assignments and schedules vary based on client demand. Work Authorization Candidates must have the legal right to work in the United States for these contract assignments. Visa or work-permit sponsorship is not provided. Candidates must already have the appropriate work authorization and should not require employer sponsorship now or in the future .

Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain server and network equipment Perform structured cabling, including copper and fiber optic Execute hardware deployments, replacements, and decommissions Perform onsite troubleshooting and hardware break/fix Rack, stack, de-rack, and relocate equipment as required Perform power cycling and basic equipment checks Follow MOPs, SOPs, safety procedures, and client requirements Maintain accurate documentation, tickets, photos, and asset records Coordinate with remote engineering, NOC, operations, and client teams Support planned maintenance, upgrades, and infrastructure changes Work independently onsite and escalate issues when required 3+ years data center operations experience Expert cabling skills (Cat6/6a, OM3/OM4/OS2 fiber) Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Experience with rack and stack operations Understanding of power distribution and UPS systems Excellent documentation and communication skills Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in demanding environments Data center certifications (CDCP, CDCS, CDCE) - preferred Vendor certifications (Dell, HPE, Cisco) - preferred Network certifications (CCNA, JNCIA) - preferred Experience with DCIM platforms - preferred Knowledge of ITIL practices - preferred
