We are currently evolving our platform to support deep-tier interconnection across the Motorola product portfolio. Our team values high-performance engineering, architectural integrity, and a commitment to building the most reliable real-time tools in the industry.
While our stack features Vue 3, Pinia, and TypeScript on the frontend and Go on the backend, we prioritize engineering fundamentals over specific library knowledge. We are looking for a developer who can navigate logic, manage state, and help us build maintainable solutions. We have a fantastic city center office in the heart of Edinburgh and fully embrace a hybrid home/office working model, with an aim for 2 days in the office.

As a Backend Engineer based in Edinburgh, you will play a key role in advancing our "Solving for safer" mission by contributing to our next-generation video management platform.
You will join a supportive, skilled engineering team based in Edinburgh and across the UK, bringing fresh ideas and collaborative energy to our high-throughput, cloud-based distributed systems. In this role, you will help to design, build, and maintain our core backend ecosystem—monitoring and managing video cameras, access control systems, and IoT sensors globally.

Key Responsibilities
Service Design & Systems Architecture Develop resilient backend services and distributed APIs that ingest, process, and manage streaming video and real-time sensor data Integrate AI analytics pipelines into cloud services to provide actionable situational awareness Maintain scalable database architectures and event-driven data pipelines to help support uninterrupted system performance Scalability & Continuous Delivery Enhance system performance, optimize throughput, and help to ensure high availability across multi-region cloud deployments Work with modern CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling to enable smooth, reliable software releases Participate in technical design discussions, peer code reviews, and build automated testing across our codebase Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner within an agile team, working closely with AI analytics, frontend, and site reliability engineering (SRE) teams to influence feature direction Collaborate with security and reliability engineers to help construct resilient, high-availability cloud solutions Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across distributed web and cloud architectures Basic Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or technical field Some experience in backend software engineering building and maintaining cloud services Legal authorization to work in the UK Job Requirements Technical Expertise Programming Languages to construct high-throughput backend services using Golang, Python, C, C++, Rust, or Java Cloud Architecture to deploy and maintain scalable backend microservices within cloud environments (GCP preferred) Database Management to handle structured and unstructured data using relational or NoSQL systems API Architecture to connect core services using RESTful APIs, Web.
Sockets, or gRPC Version Control to manage source code collaboratively using Git workflows English Proficiency to communicate technical architectures clearly with cross-functional global teams Professional Experience Agile Software Delivery to collaborate within iterative sprint cycles and continuous delivery workflows System Quality & Security to trace, analyze, and resolve technical issues across distributed cloud architectures while upholding software security best practices Product Mindset to deliver reliable software experiences that create tangible value for end-users Preferred Qualifications (Optional) Familiarity with or interest in utilizing AI-assisted tools within a modern development workflow Exposure to Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or AI concepts Understanding of service-oriented architecture (SOA) and building cloud-native products Broad architectural curiosity and a desire to develop a well-rounded technical skill set Enthusiasm for learning new programming languages (such as Go) on the job What We Offer Hybrid Work Culture: 2 days a week in our accessible, city centre office in Edinburgh, with flexible remote options for the remaining days.
