Job Summary
The Engineering Applications Lead serves as the primary Information Technology partner and application portfolio owner for the Engineering organization. This position is responsible for aligning engineering application capabilities with business objectives, developing and maintaining the Engineering applications roadmap, and coordinating the implementation, integration, support, and lifecycle management of applications used throughout Engineering.
The role works closely with Engineering leadership, Engineering DevOps, application administrators, developers, Infrastructure, Information Security, business systems teams, and external vendors to ensure Engineering applications are reliable, secure, integrated, and aligned with current and future business requirements.
The Engineering Applications Lead combines business process knowledge with technical application expertise and serves as the primary point of coordination between Engineering and IT for application-related initiatives.
Responsibilities
and Tasks Engineering Partnership & Portfolio Ownership Serve as the primary IT Applications liaison and strategic partner for the Engineering organization. Own the Engineering application portfolio and maintain a comprehensive understanding of application capabilities, dependencies, integrations, business criticality, and lifecycle status.
Partner with Engineering leadership and stakeholders to understand business objectives, operational challenges, technology requirements, and future capabilities. Develop and maintain an Engineering applications roadmap aligned with Engineering and organizational priorities. Evaluate existing applications and identify opportunities for modernization, consolidation, replacement, standardization, or improved integration.
Assist Engineering and IT leadership with application investment decisions, prioritization, budgeting, licensing, and resource planning. Establish clear business and technical ownership for applications within the Engineering portfolio. Ensure application changes are appropriately documented and transitioned into operational support.
Identify opportunities to improve Engineering processes through automation, workflow improvements, application configuration, and system integration. Coordinate requirements validation, testing, user acceptance testing, release planning, deployment, and stakeholder communication. Engineering DevOps & Application Integration Serve as the primary IT Applications point of contact for Engineering DevOps.
Partner with Engineering DevOps to understand and support development toolchains, repositories, application dependencies, workflows, and integration requirements. Coordinate with Infrastructure and Information Security on hosting, networking, identity, authentication, certificates, security controls, vulnerability management, monitoring, backup, and other technical dependencies.
Work with application developers, integration resources, database administrators, and other technical teams to design and implement integrations between Engineering applications and enterprise systems. Promote standardized and supportable integration patterns, APIs, authentication methods, and data exchanges. Identify legacy or redundant integrations and develop plans to modernize or eliminate unnecessary technical dependencies.
Application Lifecycle & Operational Management Coordinate the lifecycle management of Engineering applications, including upgrades, patches, migrations, replacements, and retirement. Maintain awareness of vendor roadmaps, product lifecycle dates, licensing changes, security concerns, and emerging capabilities. Coordinate resolution of significant or recurring application incidents and problems with internal technical teams and external vendors.
Identify technical debt and develop remediation plans in partnership with Engineering and IT teams. Establish and maintain appropriate application documentation, including system ownership, architecture, integrations, dependencies, support procedures, configurations, and recovery requirements. Coordinate vendor relationships, technical support cases, professional services, and consulting resources associated with Engineering applications.
Participate in licensing reviews, renewals, vendor evaluations, and application budgeting activities. Security, Risk & Compliance Partner with Information Security to ensure Engineering applications comply with organizational cybersecurity policies and applicable regulatory and contractual requirements. Coordinate implementation of appropriate identity, authentication, authorization, logging, data protection, vulnerability management, and configuration-management controls.
Support periodic access reviews and ensure application access models follow established organizational standards. Assist with audit and compliance activities involving Engineering applications, including evidence collection and remediation activities. Participate in risk assessments for new applications, major changes, integrations, and externally hosted services.
Ensure application architecture and data flows are appropriately documented and understood. Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Five or more years of experience supporting enterprise applications, engineering applications, business systems, PLM/ALM platforms, DevOps environments, or related technologies. Demonstrated experience partnering with business or Engineering stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver technology solutions. Experience leading or coordinating application implementations, upgrades, migrations, integrations, or other cross-functional technology initiatives.
Working knowledge of enterprise application architecture, databases, APIs, integrations, authentication, authorization, and application lifecycle management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements and solutions. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, business users, vendors, and leadership.
Ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities across a diverse application portfolio. Skills and Abilities US Citizenship is required Experience supporting Engineering or product-development organizations. Experience with one or more of the following: GitLab, Jama, Jira, Oracle Agile PLM, Solid. Works, Sonar. Qube, Subversion, Smart.
Bear Collaborator, or comparable platforms. Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), requirements management, source control, CI/CD, or DevOps technologies. Experience integrating Engineering systems with ERP, manufacturing, identity, data, or other enterprise platforms.
Experience working within manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or another regulated industry. Familiarity with cybersecurity and compliance frameworks applicable to controlled or regulated environments. Experience working with SaaS, cloud-hosted, and on-premises enterprise applications. Travel and Physical Requirements Some travel may be required.

This position requires the ability to lift, bend or stoop as necessary up to 20lbs.
