Position Information:

Registered Practical Nurses are responsible for practicing within their scope to provide safe, competent, ethical, evidenced based client care using professional knowledge and critical thinking while meeting practice standards of the College of Nurses and the Regulated Health Professions Act.

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) located at the Wellness Centre will provide care under the Terms & Conditions outlined by the Ministry of Health for Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub care providers.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assesses the health status of assigned clients on the unit as outlined in the Standards of Nursing Practice.
  2. Works with the client and family/caregivers to formulate a client centered plan of care.
  3. Advocates for clients to achieve optimal client outcomes within Expected Length of Stay.
  4. Utilizes time management skills to organize plan and provide care to clients.
  5. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team, promoting an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
  6. Participates in problem solving, planning, implementation and evaluation of Client safety and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  7. Expectation to attend work on a regular basis for all shifts including Days, Nights, Weekends and Holidays

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Competence as an R.P.N. • Current CPR Certificate. • 3- 5 years relevant mental health and addictions experience • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention course preferred • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training certification preferred • Trauma-Informed Care training certification preferred • Ability to contribute to research, creation and implementation of new policies and procedures • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of information and data systems • Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills/qualities • Superior interpersonal skills • Superior written and verbal communication skills are mandatory • Excellent ability to maintain, monitor and report on data requirements • Demonstrated ability to deal congenially with a variety of people efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision • Organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle and respect confidential information with fact and diplomacy are essential • Excellent interpersonal skills with self-awareness of personal contributions in maintaining a positive team environment while utilizing advanced communication skills • Satisfactory vulnerable person’s sector criminal background check. • Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance and performance appraisal in current position. • Documented commitment to continuing education through in-service, staff meetings and self-motivated learning. • Reliable and punctual • Excellent communication and customer relation skills. • Commitment to Client Care & Safety and Service Excellence.
