Position Information:

The Chemo Ward Clerk is responsible for screening and booking all new oncology treatment referrals from London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP) based on program criteria.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Registers patients to chemotherapy/IV infusion clinic or other adhoc clinics (ie Palliative care outreach, Medical Oncology) as directed by program criteria
  2. Acts as a receptionist for the chemotherapy/IV infusion clinic, answering inquiries of a general nature by patients, visitors, other departments, nursing staff and physicians assisting in a friendly and cooperative manner
  3. Receives all in coming referrals and schedules required appointments.
  4. Prepares laboratory and DI requisitions
  5. Requisitions supplies and coordinates any equipment and maintenance services

Qualifications

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required • Medical Terminology mandatory. • Knowledge of Cerner patient booking/registration system • Knowledge of systemic chemotherapy regimens • Knowledge of Cerner chemotherapy scheduling system (Powerchart Oncology) • 2 years experience in hospital or ambulatory clinic ward clerk setting • Proficient computer skills especially Microsoft Word and Excel • Knowledge of Personal Health Information Protection Act • Strong organizational skills • Excellent interpersonal skill. • Ability to work independently and in a team • Ability to multitask • Knowledge of, and ability to apply CQI concepts • Satisfactory vulnerable person’s sector criminal background check. • Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance and performance appraisal in current position. • Documented commitment to continuing education through inservice, staff meetings and self-motivated learning. • Commitment to Patient Care & Safety and Service Excellence.
