Job description
We are seeking a Payroll Manager to join our Global Capability Center in Mumbai. The role will oversee payroll inputs, calculations, reconciliations, reporting, and query management, partnering closely with HR, Finance and others while maintaining strict compliance with statutory and internal policies. The role will work closely with Payroll team based out of US Essential Duties
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing including variable pay, allowances, and regular cycles
- Oversee payroll inputs from HR and ensure timely validation and consolidation
- Execute post-payroll adjustments, corrections
- Manage provisions, accruals, reconciliations, and preparation of payroll-related journal entries
- Respond to employee payroll queries and provide resolution within defined SLAs
- Generate payroll reports, dashboards, and analytics for HR, Finance, and leadership
- Process leaves requests, return-to-work checklists, and monitor active leave dates
- Set up payroll parameters for new hires and ensure accurate onboarding data
- Manage garnishments, wage attachments, tax declarations, and statutory deductions
- Oversee time capture, biometric/time-sheet validation, and integration checks
- Ensure adherence to legal, tax, and compliance requirements across all payroll activities Competencies
- Strong understanding of payroll systems, statutory regulations, and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards, and US payroll standards, statutory and regulatory compliance preferred
- High attention to detail with excellent numerical and analytical ability
- Proficiency in payroll software (Workday, ADP, SAP, Oracle or similar) and Excel with ability to handle large data sets
- Ability to manage tight deadlines and multiple deliverables
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Customer-centric mindset for employee query handling
- Strong reconciliation, reporting, and documentation skills
- Strong collaboration with HR, Finance, and cross-functional teams

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s /Master’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, Commerce or related field
- Professional certifications like Chartered Accountant preferred
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in payroll operations, including multi-cycle processing
- Strong knowledge of statutory compliances, taxation, garnishments, and wage regulations
- Experience with payroll systems (Workday, ADP, SAP, Oracle or similar) and Excel with experience in managing large payroll datasets
- Proven ability to prepare payroll reconciliations, journal entries, and financial provisions
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with employees at all levels
