The Role This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated graduate looking to start or develop a career in health and safety. As a Graduate Health and Safety Officer, you will work closely with the Compliance Director and wider teams to support FireRite’s health and safety management system and its ongoing maintenance.
You will gain hands-on experience across a variety of sites and projects, with training, mentoring and development opportunities to help you build confidence and progress your career within FireRite. What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting the Occupational Health and Safety Management System in line with ISO 45001 requirements
- Assisting with health and safety policies, procedures and compliance activities.
- Carrying out site inspections and audits, with guidance and support.
- Helping to prepare and review risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and COSHH assessments.
- Supporting accident and near-miss investigations and follow-up actions.
- Assisting with occupational health surveillance and wellbeing initiatives.
- Keeping health and safety records accurate and up to date.
- Helping deliver health and safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training.
- Supporting PPE management and equipment checks.
- Playing a leading role in the Employee Health and Safety Committee.
- Working with colleagues across the business to promote a positive safety culture.
- Keeping up to date with health and safety legislation and best practice. The Person We’re Looking For Essential:
- A relevant health and safety qualification (NEBOSH Level 6 or working towards).
- IOSH membership (TechIOSH or GradIOSH) or willingness to work towards it.
- A basic understanding of UK health and safety legislation.
- A good understanding of ISO 45001 the Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
- Strong communication skills and a positive, professional approach.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required. Desirable (but not essential):
- Awareness of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement or root cause analysis techniques.
- Previous experience through a placement, internship, or relevant work experience.
