About the Role

Our client, a global leader in aviation services, is seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to oversee and manage their accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a key leadership position reporting directly to the CEO, with responsibility for maintaining financial systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and leading an accounting team of 8 full-time employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the accounting and financial reporting functions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Maintain and develop internal control procedures to protect company assets.
  • Prepare and review budgets, financial projections, and monthly financial statements.
  • Coordinate the preparation and filing of federal, state, and international tax returns with a third-party CPA firm.
  • Ensure compliance with new accounting standards and emerging guidance.
  • Coordinate external financial statement audits and prepare requested documents.
  • Develop and review accounting policies.
  • Manage the maintenance of fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Resolve accounting and financial management issues in collaboration with team members.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate the accounting department staff.
  • Review general ledger reconciliations prepared by staff accountants.
  • Monitor and report job status activity and job profitability.
  • Maintain relationships with bankers, external accountants, and insurance agents.
  • Oversee payroll processing and benefit administration with a third-party service provider.
  • Manage the company 401k plan.
  • Assist with special projects and assignments related to financial decisions.
  • Serve as an informational resource for federal and state examiners, and internal and external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide financial management support for projects as requested by Senior Management.
  • Offer financial advice to the CEO and proactively prepare for future requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics required; master’s degree or professional designation (e.g. CPA or CMA) highly preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of accounting, audit, and financial experience with strong knowledge of accounting principles and corporate taxation.
  • Significant experience in a commercial environment, preferably with some exposure to the aviation industry.
  • Demonstrated management and supervisory experience with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and conceptual thinking.
  • Experience with Quantum ERP preferred but not required. On offer:
