About the Role
Our client, a global leader in aviation services, is seeking a highly skilled Financial Controller to oversee and manage their accounting and financial reporting functions. This is a key leadership position reporting directly to the CEO, with responsibility for maintaining financial systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and leading an accounting team of 8 full-time employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the accounting and financial reporting functions.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial information.
- Maintain and develop internal control procedures to protect company assets.
- Prepare and review budgets, financial projections, and monthly financial statements.
- Coordinate the preparation and filing of federal, state, and international tax returns with a third-party CPA firm.
- Ensure compliance with new accounting standards and emerging guidance.
- Coordinate external financial statement audits and prepare requested documents.
- Develop and review accounting policies.
- Manage the maintenance of fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Resolve accounting and financial management issues in collaboration with team members.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the accounting department staff.
- Review general ledger reconciliations prepared by staff accountants.
- Monitor and report job status activity and job profitability.
- Maintain relationships with bankers, external accountants, and insurance agents.
- Oversee payroll processing and benefit administration with a third-party service provider.
- Manage the company 401k plan.
- Assist with special projects and assignments related to financial decisions.
- Serve as an informational resource for federal and state examiners, and internal and external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide financial management support for projects as requested by Senior Management.
- Offer financial advice to the CEO and proactively prepare for future requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics required; master’s degree or professional designation (e.g. CPA or CMA) highly preferred.
- Minimum of ten years of accounting, audit, and financial experience with strong knowledge of accounting principles and corporate taxation.
- Significant experience in a commercial environment, preferably with some exposure to the aviation industry.
- Demonstrated management and supervisory experience with strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and conceptual thinking.
- Experience with Quantum ERP preferred but not required. On offer:
