WCC invites applications from eligible and experienced candidates for the position of Instructor – Medical Laboratory Assistant Program (Laboratory Sections) .

Position Overview

– MLT Instructor WCC is seeking qualified and experienced Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) to support the delivery of specific laboratory sections within the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Program . The initial need for this position is primarily for a limited number of courses or laboratory sections per cohort , and the position will therefore be offered on a casual, course-by-course basis .

The successful candidate may be scheduled for selected courses or laboratory sessions based on program requirements and their availability. The position is primarily required at the Abbotsford Campus . However, depending on the candidate’s availability and willingness to travel, there may also be opportunities to teach at nearby WCC campuses, such as Surrey and Agassiz , based on course scheduling and program needs.

Candidates who have greater availability may have the opportunity to teach additional courses within the MLA Program beyond the initial assignment. Initial Teaching Assignment Employment Type: Casual / Course-by-Course Primary Location: Abbotsford Campus, British Columbia Potential Additional Locations: Nearby WCC campuses, including Surrey and Agassiz, subject to availability, scheduling, and program needs Initial Assignment: For the next cohort, MLT laboratory instruction is expected to be required from January 4, 2027, to February 10, 2027 , 5.

5 hours per day, 27.5 hours per week. Additional Teaching Opportunities: May be available depending on the instructor’s availability, qualifications, course scheduling for future cohorts, enrollment, and program requirements.

Responsibilities

Deliver laboratory instruction for designated courses within the Medical Laboratory Assistant Program. Provide hands-on instruction and demonstrations of relevant laboratory procedures, techniques, and practices. Support students in developing the practical skills and competencies required for medical laboratory assistant practice.

Ensure laboratory instruction is delivered in accordance with applicable professional, safety, and institutional standards. Provide clear instructions, demonstrations, guidance, and feedback to students during laboratory activities. Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback as required. Maintain a safe, professional, respectful, and supportive laboratory learning environment.

Support student learning and respond appropriately to questions and individual learning needs. Collaborate with the MLA Program team and other instructors to ensure consistency and quality in course delivery. Maintain required attendance, assessment, and academic records. Contribute to curriculum and laboratory course improvement as required.

Stay current with developments, practices, and standards relevant to the medical laboratory profession. Participate in professional development and other academic activities as required.

Qualifications

Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in good standing with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Demonstrated experience working in a medical laboratory setting, with at least 2 years of recent work experience in the field . Previous teaching, training, or instructional experience is preferred.

Scheduling and Future Teaching Opportunities The initial requirement is for a limited number of laboratory courses or sections per cohort . As a result, the number of hours and teaching assignments may vary throughout the academic term, and there may be periods when no teaching is scheduled. Depending on the instructor’s availability, qualifications, enrollment, course scheduling, and program needs , additional courses or laboratory sections may be assigned within the MLA Program.

Work Locations The primary need for this position is at the Abbotsford Campus . Where feasible, and depending on the instructor’s availability and willingness to work at other locations, teaching opportunities may also be available at nearby WCC campuses, including Surrey and Agassiz .
