Job description
About Skyspecs: At Sky. Specs, our mission is to simplify renewable asset management so that less can do more for the planet. Sky. Specs is helping to make this possible by automating the operations and maintenance of wind farms using advanced robotics paired with our custom-built asset performance management software, Horizon.
Sky. Specs launched the world’s first completely autonomous blade inspection product in 2016 with a custom-designed drone system. Since then, Sky. Specs has inspected over 90% of the US wind turbines and expanded globally, becoming the world leader in understanding the health of turbine blades. Identifying issues with turbine blades is only the first step.
In 2019, Sky. Specs launched Horizon, a platform for Sky. Specs to offer a multi-layered solution for customers that includes: data collection, wind turbine blade engineering expertise, and a place for all stakeholders to collaborate to manage and analyze massive amounts of data, spot trends, and create plans for high-cost repair campaigns.
In 2021, Sky. Specs acquired two companies specializing in wind turbine drivetrain monitoring and financial management, further expanding our asset management portfolio. Ultimately, this will help reduce the cost and risk of operations for the industry. What will I be getting myself into? You will analyse vibration data within the leading Horizon CMS analysis platform.
You will execute daily alarm management and escalate findings internally. Over time, you might also be trained up to analyse SCADA data as the Horizon CMS software can cover both domains. As a CMS Engineer, you will: Monitor and diagnose the health condition of key wind turbine components (i.e., gearboxes, main bearings, and generators) to highlight potential failures or damage before they occur.
Improve alarm strategies and threshold configurations based on feedback from the sites. Support the processes to transfer data and establish the monitoring setup for the onboarding of new sites to the portfolio.
Requirements
3 + years of combined experience in the fields of remote condition monitoring, vibration analysis, and/or wind turbine performance engineering. VCAT-II Vibration Analysis Category II certification or experience up to a comparable level. A thorough understanding of typical drivetrain failure modes (gearbox, generator, and bearing failure modes) and troubleshooting procedures, including root cause failure analysis.
Experience with vibration analysis software, vibration data acquisition systems, and various condition monitoring techniques. Fluency in English and excellent communication skills. Bonus points: Operational experience with wind turbine condition monitoring. Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Data Science) or applicable technical degree from an accredited university.
Experience working with condition monitoring systems from Brüel & Kjær Vibro, Bachmann, or Bently Nevada. Experience with data analysis tools and scripting (e.g., Python, SQL) for SCADA and vibration data automation. Perks of the job: Time Off: Generous leave policy—among the best in the industry. Global Team: Work with teammates across 5 countries and diverse backgrounds.
Impact: Contribute to building the backbone of clean energy digital infrastructure.
