In Japan, Second Foundation operates as an aggregator and developer in the electricity market, with a particular focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS), dispatch optimization, and market trading—further strengthening our global commitment to advancing the future of energy. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a Junior Legal Counsel to join our Tokyo team.

What you will work on

  • Support the preparation, review, and administration of commercial agreements and legal documents.
  • Assist with legal research on Japanese laws and regulations related to the energy sector.
  • Help ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support transactions, due diligence activities and document management for ongoing projects.
  • Work closely with internal teams including Business Development, Finance, and Operations, as well as external legal advisors.
  • Assist with corporate governance and general in-house legal matters.
  • Contribute to legal processes and continuously improve internal documentation and workflows.

What makes you a great candidate?

  • Law degree from a Japanese university.
  • Native or fluent Japanese and professional working proficiency in English.
  • Up to 2 years of legal experience, or a recent graduate with relevant internships or practical legal experience.
  • Interest in commercial law, corporate law, renewable energy, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, collaborative mindset.
  • Currently based in Tokyo**, or willing to relocate to Tokyo prior to joining.
