About the role
The Senior Field Service Engineer is a senior technical field leader responsible for driving complex installation, commissioning, maintenance, and optimization activities across heavy industrial process systems, with a strong focus on the cement industry . Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role serves as a trusted technical advisor to customers and internal stakeholders while directing multi-disciplinary field teams.
The Senior Field Service Engineer combines deep mechanical and hydraulic expertise, specifically with heavy rotary and grinding equipment with site leadership, commercial awareness, and customer-facing problem-solving. This position plays a critical role in strengthening customer relationships, driving operational excellence during plant shutdowns, and generating service and spare parts business growth.
Essential Duties
& Responsibilities The individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties and specific projects may be assigned at management's discretion. Field Execution & Technical Leadership Complex System Execution: Lead field execution for complex installations, commissioning, shutdowns, and operational optimization projects across heavy industrial process environments.
Team Supervision: Direct and coordinate multi-disciplinary field teams; oversee site deputation, shift scheduling, and team utilization to ensure safe, high-quality delivery. Equipment Mastery: Perform site inspection, installation, commissioning, and advanced troubleshooting on heavy machinery, specifically Ball Mills, Coolers, and Vertical Roller Mills (VRM) .
Precision Diagnostics: Execute advanced mechanical diagnostics, including Hot Kiln Alignment , mechanical clearances, and root cause analysis (RCA) to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime. Turnkey Project Management: Plan and execute turnkey maintenance and installation projects from preparation through site acceptance testing (SAT).
Hydraulic Troubleshooting: Apply practical hydraulic systems knowledge to diagnose and resolve hydraulic power unit (HPU) and actuator issues onsite. Commercial, Documentation & Business Growth Service Business Development: Identify customer requirements during site visits to generate leads for spares, upgrades, refurbishments, and expanded service agreements.
Commercial Documentation: Assist in preparing technical offers, scope proposals, and follow up to secure customer orders. Reporting & Governance: Produce site inspection reports, Minutes of Meetings (MOM), and formal customer presentations on time; ensure prompt submission of field expenses to facilitate timely client invoicing.
Cross-Functional Partnering: Provide ongoing feedback to Sales, Engineering, and Procurement teams regarding equipment performance, client needs, and local site conditions. Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement Site EHS Leadership: Enforce full adherence to company and client safety policies, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards, and quality documentation protocols on every project.
Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives to improve maintenance planning accuracy, reduce shutdown lead times, and optimize process efficiency for client operations. Customer Training: Conduct technical training sessions and operational readiness programs for customer plant personnel and site contractors.
Education
& Experience Requirements Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related engineering discipline). Equivalent combination of high-level technical training and extensive commercial/field experience will be considered. Field Experience: Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience in heavy industrial environments, specifically within the cement sector or closely related continuous-process industries.
Shutdown & Assembly Mastery: Proven experience managing plant turnaround/shutdown activities, field alignment, and commissioning of heavy equipment (Ball Mills, Coolers, VRMs). Language Proficiency: Fluent in English (written and spoken) and Hindi (spoken). Knowledge of regional Indian languages or foreign languages is a strong advantage.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Travel: Willingness and capability to travel extensively ( 180+ days per year across India ) with readiness for immediate dispatch on short notice. Industrial Site Environment: Comfortable working in active, demanding industrial plant conditions (dusty, high-noise, elevated platforms, outdoors in high ambient temperatures).
Physical Capability: Ability to maneuver around heavy machinery, climb ladders/scaffolding, and inspect equipment spaces in active manufacturing facilities.
