Research Assistant

About the Role

Oryx University invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant position in Geotechnical Engineering under a competitively funded research project supported by QRDI. The role is suited to a highly motivated candidate with strong experimental, analytical, and numerical modelling capabilities, who can actively contribute to advanced geotechnical research activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently perform advanced geotechnical laboratory testing
• Ensure laboratory testing is conducted in accordance with relevant standards and best practices.
• Analyse experimental results, interpret soil behaviour, and provide technical commentary and recommendations.
• Identify testing or data-related issues and take corrective or improvement actions when required.
• Contribute to the modification and optimisation of laboratory testing procedures.
• Perform numerical modelling and analysis using PLAXIS 2D.
• Prepare high-quality technical and research reports, including data interpretation and discussion.
• Support literature reviews and contribute to research outputs linked to project objectives.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team while maintaining a high level of independence.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications, Attributes & Pre-requisites

• Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with triaxial (UU, CU, CD) and direct shear testing.
• Experience in laboratory data analysis and interpretation.
• Working knowledge of PLAXIS 2D.
• Strong technical writing, documentation, and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage laboratory activities, and meet project deadlines.
• Research-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
• Experience working in experimental research laboratories.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities Residency Status: Candidates currently residing in Qatar are preferred.
