About 2027 International Indigenous Games & Gathering
The 2027 International Indigenous Games & Gathering (IIGG) is an Indigenous-led, international gathering of sport, culture, ceremony, and knowledge, bringing Indigenous Nations from around the world together on Treaty territory in Canada. Hosted across Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Treaty 8 territories, the Games & Gathering will take place July 25–31, 2027, with events and activities held in the Edmonton region and Southern Alberta (Calgary area). The Host Committee is an Indigenous-led organizing body working in partnership with host Nations, communities, Elders, youth, and international Indigenous partners. The International Indigenous Games & Gathering provides a global platform for Indigenous youth, athletes, cultural practitioners, Knowledge Keepers, and leaders to come together in the spirit of unity, self-determination, and Indigenous-to-Indigenous cooperation. Programming will include competitive sport, cultural showcases, ceremony, arts, knowledge exchange, and community-based gatherings. Rooted in decades of Indigenous international organizing, the Games & Gathering builds on early global Indigenous leadership movements that emerged in the 1970s and continues that legacy through renewed collaboration, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. The event reflects Indigenous leadership on a global stage, grounded in respect for land, language, culture, and future generations. The 2027 IIGG is guided by Indigenous governance, cultural protocol, and community accountability. Its purpose is to strengthen Indigenous Nations, empower youth, and create lasting international relationships through sport, culture, and shared responsibility.
