About 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation, Inc
“Nationwide, the black student college graduation rate remains at a dismally low 42 percent.” The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education 5 Strong exists to help the “academic middle” African American student get the funding and support needed to be successful in college and ultimately graduate and become productive citizens in their communities. The “academic middle” African American Student is normally classified as a solid student w/ good grades, but average to low college entrance exam scores. Because these students fall in that “middle” category, they rarely qualify for scholarships. This issue usually prevents the students from either enrolling in college and/or persisting. Normally, students that are academically thriving (i.e.great grades and great tests scores) meet most requirements for full and tuition scholarships. There are many in the “academic middle” that are great overall students and it’s been proven that they can go to college, stay in college and graduate. They can thrive and be successful.
