About Acervo Bajubá
Born in 2010 in Brasilia, on the initiative of a group of LGBTQIA+ activists, artists, collectors and researchers, the Acervo Bajubá is a community project to record the memories of Brazil's LGBT+ communities, bringing together a collection of items that record sexual diversity and the plurality of gender expressions and identities in Brazil. In parallel, Acervo Bajubá collaborates with exhibitions, training courses and projects to produce, mediate and circulate narratives about the stories of LGBT+ people, with the aim of building a collection aimed at preserving, safeguarding and historiographically researching LGBT+ art, memory and culture. In 2017, in an effort to ensure greater circulation of its collection, Bajubá moved to São Paulo, where, between 2019 and 2021, it occupied a space in the Cultural Shed of Casa 1. In 2022, the Grupo de Incentivo à Vida (GIV) became Bajubá's current headquarters. In this process, in addition to its initial aim of becoming a repository of historical documents, Bajubá has become a space for cultural production and mediation through various online and in-person projects. Developing mediation actions and workshops to activate the collection, the group of educators and researchers who work with the Acervo Bajubá contribute to maintaining the project, restoring materials and continuing research.
