About Africa VR Campus and Center

The Africa VR Campus and Center is a groundbreaking initiative that aims to empower young people across Africa by harnessing the potential of Virtual Reality (VR) and Extended Reality (XR) technologies. By fostering local talent and expertise, the center aims to bridge the gap between Africa and the global VR community. The heart of the initiative lies in its commitment to young people. The center focuses on nurturing the next generation of XR creators, developers, and storytellers. We have been working with other organizations who are trying to get a foothold in the continent in this industry, and frequently run outreach programmes to primary and secondary schools, technical and higher education institutions. The Africa VR Campus and Center are not just about technology; we are deeply rooted in social justice and a sustainable world. Participants explore how VR can be a powerful tool for addressing social issues, promoting empathy, and driving positive change. Our students are breaking new ground, providing unique perspectives and storytelling within the XR space. Africa VR Campus and Center started hosting weekly metaverse events, the first from Africa in 2019. Some of these weekly metaverse events are scheduled and hosted by our own students and are public for your attendance. We are Currently Hosting our weekly events on Banter, EngageXR and VR Chat. While the VR Campus is based in Nairobi, its impact extends far beyond Kenya. The network of supporters and collaborators spans the globe where we now have a pilot Campus in Seattle, and other hubs budding in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Rwanda, Nigeria and Cameroon. The Africa VR Campus and Center represent a beacon of hope, creativity, and innovation. By empowering young people and leveraging VR technology, they contribute to a more inclusive and connected metaverse. Keep an eye on our journey—for we’re shaping the future of XR in Africa!
