Aileron at Virginia Tech jobs and careers

About Aileron at Virginia Tech

AILERON is focused on providing hands-on experience with aircraft restoration, assembly, and flight testing. Our team is unique in that we work on full-scale, manned aircraft—a project typically reserved for professional or industry settings—offering students the opportunity to experience challenges that most typical university teams don’t engage with. Our goals are straightforward: to provide real-world exposure to aircraft mechanics while emphasizing the integration of principles of mechanical engineering with practical application. Our team operates without the constraints of traditional design teams, allowing us to pursue ambitious projects like restoring and assembling aircraft from the ground up. This freedom enables us to undertake challenges such as refurbishing aircraft engines, designing custom parts, and ensuring safe operational functionality—all while gaining invaluable technical expertise. Through our work, we’re developing solutions that not only advance the field of aviation but also prepare the next generation of aviation-based engineers for real-world success. Proud to work with the EAA and New River Valley Airport
