About Asymmetry
Asymmetry is a London-based independent, non-profit initiative dedicated to nurturing curatorial practice and developing cultural knowledge in and about Asia through global exchange. Founded in 2019 by Yan Du, contemporary art collector and patron of the arts, and launched in 2020, Asymmetry works regionally and internationally, promoting meaningful exchange between creative practitioners, institutions, and audiences to enable pioneering research, collaboration, production, and participation. The foundation is based on three main activities, comprising of academic scholarships, curatorial fellowships, and public programming, and provides career-defining opportunities and progression. Asymmetry believes in partnerships. By proactively building alliances with leading museums, art spaces and biennales, Asymmetry helps to shape the future of contemporary art practice. Inaugural projects include a fully-funded PhD Scholarship at the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London, a Curatorial Fellowship at the Whitechapel Gallery, and a Curatorial Writing Fellowship at the Chisenhale Gallery, amongst others.
