New Zealand Response Team 23 (NZ-RT23) is a nationally accredited volunteer emergency response team serving South Auckland and the wider region. Established to strengthen local and national resilience, NZ-RT23 is part of the New Zealand Response Team network and operates in close partnership with Auckland Emergency Management and emergency services. Accreditation confirms that NZ-RT23 meets national standards for capability, safety, governance, and deployment readiness. The team has undergone a rigorous assessment process covering leadership, teamwork, technical skills, communications, logistics, welfare, and operational safety. This process has ensured the team is trained, equipped, and ready to support communities when they need it most. NZ-RT23 is made up of dedicated volunteers from diverse backgrounds who train regularly to maintain operational readiness. The team’s capabilities include Civil Defence Centre support, welfare assistance, storm and flood response, light rescue, reconnaissance, and community support functions. Members are trained to integrate seamlessly with partner agencies including Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Hato Hone St John, New Zealand Police, and local councils. As a deployable national response asset, NZ-RT23 can support local, regional, and national operations during emergencies and disasters.
