About Awesome Oral Health CIC

Welcome to our LinkedIn page, where you can find out who we are and why what we are doing is so important to us. At Awesome Oral Health we are passionate about improving children’s oral health. Our Raisin Awareness project demonstrates and educates how to make tooth-friendly choices in and out of the playground. By linking primary schools with dental practices, we can work together to reduce the risk of tooth decay and promote healthy smiles. The shocking statistics: • Tooth decay is the most common reason for hospital admissions in 5-9 year olds, often leading to sleepless nights for children and parents, and time off school and work. • As well as the obvious pain associated with dental problems, they can also affect the ability to speak, eat, smile and socialise. • 35% of 12-year-old children are too embarrassed to smile or laugh. Understanding what can cause tooth decay is confusing. Research from Action on Sugar revealed the ‘Health Halo’ claims on food packaging to be misleading when marketed as healthy, natural, no added sugar. As parents and caregivers we want to do the best for our kids, and that includes choosing healthy snacks for growing bodies. Dried fruit snacks are handed out regularly at primary schools increasing risk of tooth decay. Many schools allow children to bring these and processed fruit snacks in from home every day. By helping our children understand what is tooth-friendly as well as nutritious, we can help to reduce the risk. Our solution is supplying fresh vegetables for the ‘Raisin Swap’ and regular fun dental health messages to all families (to reach even those who don't have a dentist), with a view to supporting positive policy change locally and nationally. We welcome everyone to get involved. Join the fun at www.awesome-oral-health.com.
