About Balasan Initiative for Human Rights (BIHR)

The Balasan Initiative for Human Rights (BIHR) is a Palestinian, women-led organization working to promote the rights of the Palestinian people as enshrined under international law. Through legal advocacy, research, policy planning, and creative storytelling, BIHR sheds light on ongoing violations and elevates the lived experiences of Palestinians facing systemic oppression. Our mission is rooted in justice, dignity, and the right to self-determination. We engage international mechanisms, produce rights-based publications, and amplify marginalized voices—particularly youth and Palestinian Christians—as a means to strengthen their presence in their homeland. BIHR also develops field programs and capacity-building workshops that empower the next generation of Palestinian advocates, fostering local knowledge and global solidarity. Based in Jerusalem and active throughout the occupied Palestinian territory, BIHR stands committed to transparency, accountability, and the transformative power of community-led advocacy.
