About Banda Filarmónica de Santa Tecla

The origin of the "Banda Filarmónica de Santa Tecla" dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, in the parish of Santa Tecla. In the late 60s, and after a break of some years, the elements of this band, together with other elements of a second band existing in Celorico de Basto, formed the "União Musical Celoricense". This union was conducted by Maestro Artur Alves da Mota and lasted for about 5 years. At the beginning of the 80s, the aforementioned Maestro Artur Mota, after getting in touch with some passionate musicians, tried to restore the name and the life of one of the oldest bands existing in this municipality, before "União Musical Celoricense". On the 12th of November 1980, an association was constituted in the Notary's Office of Fafe, with the designation of "Banda Musical de Tecla". The "Casa do Povo de Fervença", under the presidency of Reverend Monsignor Lameiro, was the entity that assumed the guardianship of this band. In 1985, due to the weakening and ageing of its active body, the collaboration of a member of the band was requested, Professor António Pinto Alves, the band's current conductor, who, on that date, was finishing his General Trumpet Course at the renowned "Conservatório Regional de Braga". As the band's subsistence problem was related to the lack of musicians, a small music school was created in order to feed the band's active body. Currently, the band is in a process of reorganization in which the younger elements are taking over the bureaucratic portfolios of the band and trying to do everything possible for this institution to develop successfully. This process has been going on since the beginning of 2020, the period since which the Band's School of Music, which had been at a standstill for some years, has been reactivated. Come and be part of this family!
