About Bijou Theatre Center

The Bijou Theatre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit performing arts center located in the heart of downtown Knoxville. Housed in a century-old building and recognized as the oldest theater in Tennessee, the Bijou has been a cornerstone of the region’s cultural life since its beginnings as a vaudeville house in 1909. Over the decades, this historic stage has hosted legendary artists like The Marx Brothers, Public Enemy, Alison Krauss, Sheryl Crow, The Ramones, Kenny Chesney, Dave Matthews Band, Wilco, and Aziz Ansari. With acoustics lauded by The New York Times as “one of the best sounding rooms in the country,” the Bijou remains a favorite for performers and audiences alike. Each year, we present more than 150 live events that bring joy, inspiration, and a deep sense of connection to over 100,000 patrons. Our mission is to foster inclusivity and community by offering a vibrant space for diverse cultural expression—honoring Knoxville’s past while shaping its creative future.
