About Black Teacher Project

Black Teacher Project's (BTP) mission is sustain and develop Black teachers to lead and reimagine schools as communities of liberated learning. Our vision is that every student will benefit from the diversity, excellence, and leadership of an empowered Black teaching force. Black teachers are navigating an ecosystem of push out factors, some of the most prevalent being: invisible racialized role expectations that are uncompensated; lack of leadership opportunities & culturally responsive professional development; difficulty navigating inequitable and anti-Black systems; racial micro & macro aggressions; isolation; and health & safety challenges. BTP’s core services provide professional development in Black racial affinity that equip Black educators with the knowledge, tools, conditions, and sources of rejuvenation needed to reimagine our schools and systems. We also recognize that individual Black teachers cannot create change alone. To foster the enabling conditions necessary for teacher retention and thriving, BTP offers consulting and coaching services for TK-12 school, district, and systems leaders — partnering with all stakeholders committed to building schools where every student belongs, is affirmed, and can thrive.
