Block, Inc. (formerly Square, Inc.) is an American technology company focused on financial services, operating platforms including Square for merchant payment processing, Cash App for peer-to-peer payments and consumer finance, and TIDAL for music streaming. Founded in 2009 by Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey as Square, the company rebranded to Block in December 2021 to reflect its expanded business portfolio including cryptocurrency and blockchain initiatives. Block is headquartered in Oakland, California, and listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
