Blue Ocean Entertainment AG is one of the world's leading providers of children's media products. Founded in 2005 as a publishing start-up in Stuttgart, the company has been majority-owned by Hubert Burda Media since 2014. Blue Ocean currently publishes around 70 regular magazines and numerous digital offerings in its German-speaking core market alone, based around well-known brands such as LEGO, Princess Lillifee, Miraculous, Bibi & Tina, Playmobil, Jurassic World and Schleich. If the publications of the foreign subsidiaries are included, BOE now publishes well over 1,000 issues a year. Stickers, Trading Card Games, 3D collectible series such as the LissyPonys and loyalty programs for retailers round out the portfolio. With 250 permanent employees at its six European locations in Stuttgart, Kehl, Wroclaw, Madrid, Lisbon and Turin, the Blue Ocean Entertainment Group generated sales of 125.5 million euros in 2021. Market leader In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Blue Ocean is by far the market leader in the children's and youth magazine segment. 22 of the 30 best-selling children's magazines in German retail come from the Burda Group's children's media specialist, including the complete top 5: LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Minecraft, Princess Lillifee Magic World, LEGO Ninjago Legacy and Princess Lillifee. Internationally relevant Worldwide, the Blue Ocean Group plays a weighty role. The publishing subsidiaries in Spain as well as Portugal are by far the market leaders in children's magazines. In Poland and France, the publishing house is among the top three. Blue Ocean also publishes in Hungary and Romania itself and is now opening publishing operations in Italy, where a business unit dedicated to promotions and loyalties is active. Through cooperation with Burda subsidiaries (e.g. in Great Britain and the Czech Republic) or the granting of sublicenses, Blue Ocean's magazines appear not only in more than 20 European countries, but worldwide from the USA to China.
