About blunt magazine South Africa

Founded in 1997, blunt, South Africa’s iconic magazine, is back. First launched by founding editor Miles Masterson in a converted garage flat in Cape Town, blunt’s first few issues were put together with little more than a sketchy dial-up internet connection, dated PC and an old-school film camera. Supported by Atoll Media in Durban, the magazine was immediately notorious for its uncensored, off-the-wall ‘gonzo’ editorial approach, representing and bringing together fans of individualistic sports and creative subcultures - skateboarding, surfing, BMX, wakeboarding, underground music and more. blunt quickly became one of South Africa’s most successful, bestselling print publications, with a nationwide cult-like following of tens of thousands of readers and devoted disciples. It launched one of the country’s first magazine websites, produced videos, took part in major national events and international tours, endorsed TV shows, and hosted a ‘blunt’ stage at all of South Africa’s biggest music festivals, where the likes of Fokofpolisiekar and countless other legendary SA bands and musicians played their first gigs. But that was then. Laying dormant but not forgotten, blunt has emerged from its long hibernation. Led by its creator and founder Miles, a small team of freelancers and contributors are breathing life back into blunt magazine, reinvigorating the youth media brand for a new generation while staying true to that original vision… To be the unbiased, independent voice of like-minded progressive South African subcultures and to spread the gospel of adrenaline sports, personal freedom and unfiltered fun and creativity. blunt. Still addicted to the suck of gravity.
