The Breast Cancer in Young Women Foundation (BCYW Foundation) is a globally focused nonprofit organization committed to studying and combating breast cancer in adolescents and young women. It is led by an international and diverse team of breast cancer specialists, researchers, advocates, BCYW survivors, NGOs, and global ambassadors representing 30 countries. Although breast cancer is often viewed as a disease of older age, incidence among women under 40 is rising in many regions worldwide. Young women face distinct biological, genetic, reproductive, and psychosocial challenges that demand focused research and tailored public health strategies. Our mission is to: • Advance evidence-based research on early-onset breast cancer • Promote targeted early awareness on university and college campuses • Support global youth advocacy through academic partnerships • Elevate scientific dialogue on early tumor biology, prevention, and survivorship Our work focuses on three integrated pillars: Research Advancement We promote scientific discussion on early tumor biology, early-onset risk factors, the biological basis of selective risk factors, and existing data gaps — emphasizing the importance of including young women more thoroughly in research planning and reporting. Targeted Awareness & Youth Engagement Through organized campus initiatives and academic collaborations, we provide age-appropriate, evidence-supported education—empowering students to serve as informed ambassadors for breast health. Global Advocacy We advocate for including early-onset breast cancer in both national and international cancer strategies and prioritizing research globally.
