ButCH (Bureau for the Contemporary and Historic) is an independent, collective queer-identified consultancy, established in 2019. We undertake exciting projects that address the most urgent and complex issues in heritage and culture, explore collaboration and community, and allow us to work at the coal-face of these issues that matter to us. ButCH offers interdisciplinary, theoretically informed, practically grounded approaches to arts and heritage work - across research, arts production, engagement and evaluation. From hybrid backgrounds across heritage consultancy, academic research, and arts practice, we provide innovative problem-solving responses to heritage and culture, to arts-informed heritage projects and heritage-informed arts projects. Our diverse portfolio includes research, project conception and management, historic building assessment and survey, quantitative and qualitative research, data analysis and managment, curation, interpretation, impact and evaluation, community co-creation and training, teaching and CPD, within community, commercial, government, and academic sectors, always embedded within our practice of co-creation, participation, inclusivity, and active listening. This portfolio allows ButCH to provide flexible, creative, collaborative solutions to clients and affiliates wishing to get beyond one-size-fits-all conventions. Our agile structure allows us to team up with others to offer the right team for the project. ButCH is able to draw on a wide range of capabilities and specialisms across the arts/heritage/culture sectors to respond to the diverse needs of the present.
