About California Scholastic Press Association

The 61st-annual California Scholastic Press Association-Cal Poly Journalism Workshop – the most prestigious high school journalism seminar in the nation – will return to the beautiful California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo campus from July 15-27, 2012. The workshop is limited to 25 high school juniors and seniors considering a career in communications. Students are instructed in fundamentals of reporting, editing and photography, but also go in-depth with the latest advances in reporting. Students maintain their own blogs, create their own newspaper and television broadcast and utilize social media in their assignments. Students are housed in the same dorm on campus used by most of the all-volunteer faculty, enabling the participants to meet and confer with these professional journalists throughout the day and evening, as well as in the classroom. The workshop has run continuously since 1951, when it was founded by Los Angeles Examiner reporter Ralph Alexander.
