About Can't Buy My Silence

CBMS UK is a campaign working to end the misuse of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to silence victims and witnesses of harassment, discrimination, bullying and abuse. Founded by Zelda Perkins, CBMS UK has played a central role in securing landmark legislative reform. Following years of survivor-led advocacy, NDAs can no longer be used to silence victims or witnesses across key areas of UK law, including: • Employment Rights Act – confidentiality clauses are void where they attempt to prevent workers from speaking about harassment, discrimination, or how their employer handled it • Victims and Prisoners Act and Victims and Courts Bill – NDAs cannot be used to silence victims or witnesses of criminal conduct. • Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act – NDAs are banned in cases of sexual misconduct, harassment and bullying across English universities for students staff and visiting speakers. CBMS UK continues to work with government, regulators, employers and institutions to ensure these legal changes are implemented effectively and deliver real-world protection. Alongside legislative reform, we provide a platform for people in the UK to share experiences of NDA misuse (including anonymously), contribute evidence to policymakers, and access clear information about their rights. Our focus is ensuring NDAs are used only for their legitimate purpose, protecting confidential business information, and never as tools to conceal harm. Follow Zelda Perkins CBE on LinkedIn for UK legislative updates and commentary.
