About Center for Global and Regional Governance
The Center for Global and Regional Governance (CEGREG) is a research hub within the International School of Economics at Maqsut Narikbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan. Established in 2024, CEGREG is dedicated to advancing the study of international relations and governance, with a specific focus on Kazakhstan and Central Asia’s role in global affairs. Our mission is twofold: To provide a platform for rigorous research on global and regional governance. To amplify Central Asian perspectives in international academic and policy discussions. By integrating regional insights with global governance debates, CEGREG bridges international academic discourse with the realities of Central Asia, fostering a more inclusive and nuanced understanding of governance. What We Do CEGREG serves as a collaborative hub for scholars, students, and practitioners, fostering interdisciplinary research and academic exchange. We actively involve Maqsut Narikbayev University students in hands-on research projects, equipping the next generation with the skills to engage with pressing global and regional challenges. Our research focuses on four key areas: ✔ Regionalism in Central Asia – Exploring identity politics, integration, and regional cooperation. ✔ Central Asia in Global Governance – Examining its role in navigating sanctions, energy transitions, and geopolitical shifts. ✔ Global Infrastructure & Development Initiatives – Analyzing projects like China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the EU’s Global Gateway. ✔ Cybersecurity & Digital Governance – Addressing digital risks, media influence, and security challenges. Our Vision CEGREG aspires to be an internationally recognized center of excellence in international relations and governance research. Through our work, we aim to position Kazakhstan and Central Asia as active contributors to global governance discussions, fostering knowledge exchange and regional collaboration.
