About Centre for Studies in Population and Development

Operating under the umbrella of the Department of Economics at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), the Centre for Studies in Population and Development (CSPD) functions as an interdisciplinary hub addressing the complex interplay between demographic change and development imperatives. The Centre’s mission is to generate evidence-based research that advances economic, social and climate justice in response to rapid and ongoing population transitions. CSPD focuses on six core thematic areas- Population Dynamics and Migration, Ageing, Human Capital and Labour Markets, Science, Technology and Innovation and Ecology and Climate Change. Through these domains, the Centre seeks to foster informed public discourse and influence development policy. It actively engages in collaborative research, builds international academic networks, undertakes field-based data generation, and pursues community-centred outreach initiatives. CSPD is supported by a distinguished Advisory Board comprising scholars from premier global institutions, alongside a dynamic team of researchers and affiliated scholars, working collectively to position the Centre at the forefront of population and development studies.
