About Chatham-Kent Barnstormers
The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers were born from a simple belief: Chatham-Kent is a baseball town. After years of planning, the ownership group formally proposed an expansion franchise to Intercounty Baseball League Commissioner John Kastner in July 2019, confident that Chatham-Kent had everything needed to support high-level baseball. For owner Dom Dinelle, the choice was obvious. Chatham-Kent has a proud and storied baseball tradition, producing legends such as Fergie Jenkins, Bill Atkinson and Doug Melvin. That history, combined with a strong local baseball culture and thriving minor baseball programs, made the community a natural fit for a new franchise. The team also found the perfect home in Fergie Jenkins Field. With its strong playing surface, ongoing improvements and accessible location near Highway 401, the ballpark offered an ideal setting for competitive baseball and a great fan experience. Chatham-Kent’s size, business community and proximity to other league cities also made it a strong fit culturally, logistically and financially. From the beginning, the Barnstormers were built to be more than just a baseball team. The club’s mission is to provide affordable, family-friendly entertainment while bringing high-level baseball to the region. At the same time, the organization is committed to making an impact off the field through partnerships with local businesses, schools, non-profits and minor baseball associations. Community involvement remains at the heart of the Barnstormers identity. From youth clinics and reading programs to ballpark events, special appearances and collaborations with community groups, the team is dedicated to building lasting connections across Chatham-Kent. The Barnstormers officially began our journey in 2024. On May 18, 2024, the first pitch in franchise history was thrown before a sold-out crowd at Fergie Jenkins Field, marking the start of a new era of baseball in Chatham-Kent. Today, the tradition continues.
