About Chicago Mushroom Club

Our organization has contributed to scientific research in the field of Mycology as well as highlighted the necessity of protecting fungi in regard to overall ecological conservation through fostering public awareness. As a duo, we are self-funding and conducting multiple mycological research projects within Chicago’s city limits. We aim to highlight the resilience of fungi in the face of human destruction and uncover fungal species previously unknown to Illinois. Through our endeavors we have worked directly in event organization, sample sourcing, data collection, community outreach, and expanding range maps of known organisms through citizen science. We intend to cultivate a network of people with supplementary skill sets to establish a broad base of ecological knowledge. We will then disseminate these niche knowledge-bases to the public for free. No paywalls, no academic barriers, just learning. Currently, CMC plans and hosts bi-monthly community education seminars through group hikes and presentations. Our hikes are always free!
