About Children's Book Project

We believe in the empowering impact of book ownership. We gift books to children with few of their own, widening reading communities & helping all to dream. Leveraging the full potential of the circular economy, this year we will rehome over one million pre-loved and new surplus children's books with children and young people that have very few books of their own. There are over 280m outgrown children's books lying on bookshelves throughout the UK whilst every year in the UK the publishing industry is forced to dispose of brand new children's books that for whatever reason are surplus to requirements. With the support of a wide array of partners we unlock the latent potential of these books, gifting them to families via mini 'book festivals' hosted in over 700 carefully chosen schools, prisons, food banks and other settings nationwide. We are proud to support the 2026 National Year of Reading and proud to be an official charity partner for the new Children's Booker Prize. We don't just gift surplus books to those in need - we unlock the educational and cultural capital within each one.
