About CineMarea
CineMarea is a free, itinerant filmmaking residency in Uruguay that supports the production of short films in collaborative, immersive, and decentralized contexts. Over the course of four weeks, CineMarea travels through different towns across Uruguay, bringing together new voices from international cinema to engage in a creative process free of competition. In this format, the works are developed in connection with the territory and its communities, using available resources and fostering autonomy and narrative diversity. It promotes the democratization of cinema by embracing alternative production methods, accessible practices, and horizontal human teams. CineMarea sees small-scale infrastructures as creative opportunities that offer real freedom in the process of making films. More than a training or exhibition platform, CineMarea is a life experience that strengthens cultural identity, decentralizes audiovisual production, and opens up new possibilities for more people to tell their stories. What drives this project is the conviction that cinema can transform both those who make it and those who experience it. That’s why, edition after edition, the commitment is to create a meaningful experience and a genuine exchange that brings value to all participants—opening pathways for connection and learning.
